Up next in our Doctoral Candidates series: Marta Mirkov, who is bringing her expertise in 𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 to the SmartAnkle team. 💡
👩🏻💻 About: Marta is a PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering and Automation at Aalto University (Finland), collaborating with Tecnalia Serbia Ltd for the SmartAnkle project. Her background blends hardware development, biomedical signal processing, and experimental design, with previous experience in rehabilitation robotics and hardware design for biomedical applications. She holds a BSc and MSc in Electrical Engineering from University of Belgrade.
🦿 SmartAnkle Project: Marta’s research focuses on the development of a smart wearable garment for biomechanical analysis of the ankle. This includes designing and integrating sensors to measure kinetics, kinematics, and EMG activity, with the aim to enable smart and volitional control of AFOs.
⭐️ Current Work: Marta is currently validating a framework that uses sensor ranking and multi-objective optimization to select minimal sensor setups without compromising performance, based on a dataset recorded at Aalto University, in the Bionic and Rehabilitation Engineering laboratory. Her goal is to create design guidance for the developement of flexible, user-friendly wearable systems that can adapt to individual needs.
