🎓 Meet the Researchers Behind SmartAnkle! 🦿✨
We’re starting a new series to introduce each of our Doctoral Candidates (DCs) and the work they’re doing. The SmartAnkle project brings together researchers from different backgrounds to develop next-generation ankle-foot orthoses that are modular, sensor-based, and tailored to users’ needs.
Over the next weeks, you’ll get to know each PhD researcher and learn more about their focus areas and goals.
Stay tuned as we start the series with Eduardo, who’s bringing his expertise to the SmartAnkle project by focusing on gait analysis and user needs. 💡
👨🏽💻 About: Eduardo is a PhD candidate specializing in biomechanical engineering at University College Dublin while working as a Research Engineer at Ottobock. He earned a BS in Biomedical Engineering and a MS in Neuroengineering and Rehabilitation, both from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Spain.
🦿 SmartAnkle Project: As part of the SmartAnkle team, Eduardo is studying the influence of ankle-foot orthosis (AFOs) on human gait through data-driven insights. His research aims to better understand how to improve gait in individuals with locomotor impairments. With a passion for innovation, Eduardo advances technology for personalized gait support.
⭐️ Current Work: As a first step towards this direction, Eduardo is currently working on surveying the needs of AFO users to translate these needs into technical requirements. Parallelly, he is also working on integrating sensors into an AFO to collect data on joint mechanics and force distribution during walking.
